Balfour Beatty Capital worked in partnership with Kelda Group and Tyco Tech to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a £110 million waste water treatment project in Scotland.
The project is delivered through a special purpose company, Aberdeen Environmental Services Ltd (AES) in which Balfour Beatty retains a 45% interest.
AES has a 30 year concession which serves nearly 280,000 customers in Aberdeen, Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
Advanced works commenced on the project in February 2000 and the treatment plants were fully operational by September 2001.
Revenue is based on the volume and loads of influent to the treatment works. Since it was commissioned, the plant has been performing well with income in line with the project’s original projections.
