Transform Schools

“The teachers want to be here, the children want to be here, the children want to learn. The attainment will go up, I know it will.”
Vicky Whitehead, Chair of Governors, Thornhill Primary

Transform schoolsBalfour Beatty Capital’s schools schemes are managed by Transform Schools, one of the largest providers of school education facilities in the UK with a total estate of 154 primary and secondary schools, and two leisure centres, spread over five major schemes in: Stoke; Rotherham; North Lanarkshire; Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire; and Birmingham.

Our design teams have in depth knowledge of the issues in delivering of educational facilities, combined with extensive experience of working with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and local education authorities.

We understand the need for flexibility resulting from the dynamic nature of the curriculum, changing teaching methods and the integration of information technology.

Our construction team has a wealth of experience in grouped schools projects, and, in consultation with each school and the education authority, develops a construction programme which is integrated with school activities to minimise disruption. They work closely with school representatives and the council to promote the security and safety awareness of all schools users.

Transform Schools works in partnership with local authorities to improve educational attainment through the design, building and management of inspirational learning environments.

We do this by:

  • Focusing on educational outcomes.
Our integrated educational, ICT and architectural design team set out to develop buildings that facilitate the delivery of educational targets.
  • Encouraging a strong partnership ethos.
We place significant emphasis on stakeholder inclusion and it is our goal to be considered as the public sector’s private sector partner of choice.
  • Delivering best value.
We concentrate on the innovative approaches necessary to achieve year on year improvement over a sustained investment programme.

In school PFI schemes, revenue is linked to the availability payments for individual facilities subject to any service performance deductions. Transform has an excellent track record of completing schools on time and budget and subsequently achieving high standards of operational availability and service levels.

We emphasise the importance of placing schools at the heart of their communities, because we recognise that schools serve not only as educational centres, but also as beacons for local social cohesion and regeneration strategies. However, our approach is always tailored to each project’s unique requirements.

Transform promotes a number of local initiatives such as community football programmes; art competitions for pupils; and a Love My School competition aimed at eliminating litter, vandalism and graffiti.
